Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Series: The Hush, Hush Saga
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Paperback: 416 Pages
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers; Reprint edition (September 21, 2010)

"For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. At least, not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and probing eyes, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment. But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure who to trust—she can’t decide whether she should fall into Patch’s arms or run and hide from him. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth more unsettling than any feeling Patch evokes. For Nora stands amid an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen—and choosing the wrong side will cost her life."

If I had not been given this book as a gift, I would've never picked it up. I didn't really feel like reading it but it was sitting on my shelf collecting dust. There was some mixed reviews about this book but I wanted to read Hush, Hush before seeing any reviews. I probably should've read the reviews first.

Hush, Hush is a story told by Nora Grey. She gets a new biology lab partner named Patch. Yes, I am aware that this is exactly like Twilight. (I heard that this book is always compared to Twilight). Nora is very unsure about Patch. Something about Patch just doesn't seem right. (Again, more Twilight). After becoming lab partners with Patch, everything goes from bad to worse.

When I finished this book, I honestly just didn't care. Even when I had about three more chapters to go, I wasn't rushing to find out what was going to happen. Because by then, I didn't care. I'm not saying that Hush, Hush is a bad book, it was just very predictable and... too fast? By too fast I mean the romance and the story itself.

Next the characters. Nora Grey. Was I the only one who didn't like her character? I didn't feel close to Nora's character at all and she was just so annoying at times. First, she accuses everyone. If something happens, she starts assuming everyone did it. If not this person, then the other. Second, her relationship with Patch. I didn't like it at all. This was probably the worst relationship I've read about since Twilight. Nora likes Patch, and then she dislikes him. Patch even tells her that he does want to kill her, but Nora starts telling herself that Patch would never harm her. (But gurl, dis boy just said dat he would harm you. Why you no believe him? Oh wait, you don't care and it must not be true cuz you lurve him). Nora just confused me a lot. It was almost like she didn't know what she wanted.
Also, her mom is always gone. Or there's always some excuse for her mom not being there. That also kind of annoyed me.

Patch Cipriano is supposed to be the hot, bad boy of the story. I didn't feel that. His character just wasn't my favorite. I was really expecting the author to make me like him, but I never did. Patch and Nora's relationship just didn't work for me. They either got on each other nerves or wanted to get in each others pants.

I don't plan on buying the rest of the books in this series. I also don't really recommend this book. Unless you like fallen angels, quick what just happened stories, then okay.

I gave Hush, Hush a 2 out 5 stars.
